All I can say is that I was glad I was there to witness Christian Hanson’s first career NHL goal against Martin Brodeur. Christian Hanson is the son of Dave Hanson of the Hanson Brothers Slapshot fame…as in the movie “Slapshots.”

I had just watched that movie for the first time about a month ago and was laughing hysterically over it and thinking…oh, those Hanson brothers! Now, the next generation of Hansons has entered the NHL.

Christian Hanson just joined the Toronto Maple Leafs a little over a week ago after signing a two-year entry level contract right out of college. Not bad for a kid right out of college, right? Scoring your first goal against the most winningest goaltender in the NHL…

As for the Devils (*SIGH*), I’m just happy I don’t have to get up on a podium and tell them…here’s what you’re doing wrong…here’s what you’re getting away from…and this is what you need to return to doing. But I can write about it… Leafs Embarrass Devils

I don’t talk about this in my column, but all I can say is that 4-1 loss…did a serious number on those guys. Zach Parise sounded like a broken record talking about scoring goals…scoring goals…scoring goals…but he couldn’t. I almost patted him on the head and said it was ok…relax, let them come naturally…stop trying so hard.

But at the same time I realized that I was kind of responsible for Zach’s disarray. All I can say is that the kid has scoring goals on his mind…which can be a good thing (I think).

There’s an inkling of a hint that Scott Clemmensen may be going in net for a little bit and Sutter is going to start switching up the goaltenders. Sutter won’t say that’s what he’s going to do, but we know it’s on his mind.

There’s that level of respect one has for Martin Brodeur that you want to keep him in net every chance you can get, but then there’s that hot goaltender going cold on the bench that you should probably be playing to guarantee a Stanley Cup win.

What are you going to do? I’d switch up the goalies if I were coach…and not to the point where it would be offensive to the other goalie. You just keep it as a team effort to where both goalies get a shot at the net. You ride the hottest one of the two…better yet when they’re both running hot.

Besides, I’m getting sick of hearing (and I’m sure Marty is too) that Marty’s slump is because of his arm again. Whatever…

Actually…I’m going to do my top 3 things that have annoyed me in the locker room.

1. Someone asked Brendan Shanahan if a watch he was given as a gift when he reached a milestone was an indicator that his team was suggesting he should retire…

Can I say my mouth dropped when that was asked of Brendan. I looked at Brendan and almost said, “You don’t have to answer that.” I almost told the guy off. Brendan responded that he just thought his teammates were suggesting that he not be late.

For the record, Shanny has a few more years left in him. Don’t suggest retirement to him. Only he knows when he’s ready. For as long as Chris Chelios is playing hockey…don’t even suggest Shanny should retire.

2. Marty Brodeur’s slump is because of his arm…

Like I said before…it’s annoying. That’s not the case. If it was, Marty would sit out.

3. Now that Patrik Elias and Martin Brodeur have hit all of their milestones, the Devils game will taper off.

Ok…those are words you should NEVER say, especially to either one of those guys. It’s like wishing bad luck on them. You can’t say that stuff to them, because it sinks in. Just kick them while their down…

I don’t always ask questions in the locker room, but I stand around and listen to what’s being said and what’s being asked. You learn a lot that way. You’ll also learn what exactly it is that is ripping that team apart. I hate saying it, but Lou may have to close the doors to us for a little while until his team gets their heads put back on straight.
