KHL Recruiting or Jagr?

Something I’m not a big fan of is Jaromir Jagr’s recruitment of NHL players to the KHL in Russia.

I’ve read plenty of translations to hear him talk so adamantly about changing the KHL rules to get rid of the 4 non-Russian players per team clause. By getting rid of that clause, more NHLers could go to Russia to play for the KHL.

What did the NHL do to him to cause this treason?

I can understand the need to build up the KHL, but to take from a league that has already been established? That’s just thievery and biting the hand that fed you for so many years.

Now, don’t get me wrong…Jaromir Jagr is my all-time favorite hockey player EVER, but the continuous material from Russia printing his conversations on his support in luring NHLers to Russia does not bode well in my book. It’s almost as hurtful as what he said the media did to him when they released reports (or repeated them) about what happened in Alexei Cherepanov’s final minutes.

He talks about thinking before passing on that kind of information when you don’t have the solid truth to back it up (well…if you spoke, maybe it would have cleared everything up). Instead, he criticized the media for passing along the information to the people of the world when the facts were not even presented from the Omsk club. It was breaking and sad news and the world had to know something. We only went by what the Russian papers sent to us.

So before you criticize us, think before you start recruiting the elite of the NHL to your cause. Not everybody supports the idea of NHLers heading to Russia for more money and then hearing stories of a player losing a child that fell from a window, or worse…dying due to lack of medical assistance.

These are not positive stories coming back to those in North America. They are heartbreaking stories that should not happen to anyone.

Now, he wants Michael Nylander in Omsk. Nylander…

He may not be the best fit for the Capitals, but he’s an excellent fit for the NHL. I vote Nylander should stay. It’s not easy moving an entire family to Siberia (and Nyls has a big family). Nylander to Omsk so he can center Jagr…

Jagr can bring his derriere back to the NHL so Nylander can center him. So Mr. Sather, start working on bringing Nylander back to the Rangers, because the only home Jagr should be coming home to is New York City when the KHL season ends in 2010.
