Never a Dull Moment in My Off-Season…

Wow…just this week there’s been plenty of interesting stuff happening in the world of hockey. This is the stuff that keeps us hockey writers busy.

First, I would like to say that if you’re going to follow the Shanny updates…always read the latest one. THE LATEST one…not one I wrote a month ago. Case in point: Shanny to sign with Devils or Rangers

All of the news is old news. It makes me ask…AM I THE SOURCE CLOSE TO THE NEGOTIATIONS (lol). Did I not say weeks ago that the Flyers were not interested in Shanny? That wasn’t Shanny…that was the GM from the Flyers saying that!

Rangers…Oh good lord, if he went back to the Rangers, I’d probably have a ceremonious bonfire in my backyard where I would be chucking every Shanahan item I own, have had autographed, etc. into the fiery pit. Man, that Team Canada jersey would die in shame…in shame! It was from the year that his team won the gold, signed at the Olympics in 2002. [Thank goodness I gave almost all of the artwork to him, would be a shame to toss all of those hours and creativity into a bonfire.]

But really, I’m not worried. Considering the man couldn’t say the word “Rangers” for months, I think it is safe to say he’s still a Devil. But like I said…that Rangers rumor came from me…a while ago. We’ve heard something else since then.

Another story that has come up that I find to be very interesting is a FAKE Myspace of Sidney Crosby’s OR at least a charitable one that was found to be a scam. PUCK DADDY’s Blog: Crosby Impersonated

I’m saving the best story for last…

Martin Havlat (Minnesota Wild) decided to vent on Twitter yesterday afternoon on what happened to Dale Tallon (Chicago Blackhawks). This got all of us in the hockey writing world talking…actually telling Havlat to tell all to a member of the press that he could trust. Well, he did: Havlat tells all to TSN.ca

I love disgruntled former players. It’s quite strange how all of the things in Chicago played out the way that they did. Havlat was in Prague and came back to the States because they were working on a deal with Chicago…only to hear Havlat abruptly tell everyone that he’d signed with Minnesota and WAIT…WAIT till we hear what’s going down in Chicago.

Nothing against the Wild, because Havlat is looking forward to his new job. But why he left Chicago…well, that story was just not pretty…along with Tallon being removed as GM.

For the background on the Chicago situation, read this: Bowman Named New GM of Blackhawks

Havlat’s response (it’s good): Havlat Talks About His Twittering Vent

Another great take on the situation is here at Hockey Wilderness (it even includes a link to the Blackhawks side of the story – they say Havlat doesn’t know what he’s talking about): All Sides in the Havlat Story

As for me, I have found a whole network of hockey lovers, bloggers, writers, etc. in the Twitter universe. Here are a few places I’m mentioned:

Speaking of the Devils talks about the Parise Interview: Lemaire to the Devils

From Preds on the Glass on the Lemaire story: Tuesday Tidbits

and of course…Havlat’s twittering (LOL) from B.D. Gallof: Tittered By Twitter

Oh, and based on photos I’m seeing for the 3PM press conference in Boston, it will be the Flyers vs. Bruins for the Winter Classic at Fenway. Consider it official.
